Designs for a 2.8-acre mixed-use development in downtown Gilbert won the unanimous approval from the town Redevelopment Commission last week, paving the way for 176 residences, 14,600 square feet of retail and a parking garage on the south end of the Heritage District.

The land, dubbed “South Anchor” is located on the northwest corner of Gilbert and Elliot roads and will be home to the vertical mixed-use project.

The development comprises two buildings, one with the residential units and commercial spaces, and the garage, with a paseo-style walkway on the ground floor connecting them.

Discussions about the project by the town redevelopment and planning commissions began earlier this year, after the project's developer, Keeley Properties, submitted a request for a conditional use permit
