Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison has warned that Anthony Albanese’s decision to recognise a Palestinian state is “fantasy diplomacy” and could be further straining Australia’s relationship with the Trump administration.

The White House confirmed that Trump will hold bilateral talks this week with a string of world leaders – including Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Argentina’s Javier Milei and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen – but Mr Albanese is absent from the schedule.

Asked whether Labor’s recognition of a Palestinian state had contributed to the diplomatic freeze, Mr Morrison told The Kenny Report it would have been a contributing factor.
