On September 15, the world observed the International Day of Democracy. This year, it comes with a stark reminder: democracy is in decline. Democracies everywhere are struggling with polarization, declining trust and the erosion of civic life. Authoritarian regimes and bad actors worldwide are pouring billions into information manipulation and interference campaigns and elections face new and evolving threats that complicate and challenge our capacity to deliver democracy’s most fundamental elements.
