The Athletic | Stephen J. Nesbitt and Chad Jennings: (subscription required) The Athletic began their postseason preview coverage yesterday, starting with the pitching staffs. Choosing eight pitchers for each postseason contender — three starting pitchers, one swingman, three middle relievers, and one closer — Nesbitt and Jennings ranked what they considered to be the best staffs in the postseason. The Yankees ranked eighth (out of a total of 15 teams), and were fourth in the American League (behind Seattle, Houston, and Boston). Not surprisingly, their middle-of-the-road ranking is the result of their “boom or bust” strategy.
