UPDATE 6:20 A.M.: According to 511NY, all lanes are now open on I-86 Eastbound between Exit 49 and 50.

BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A tractor-trailer fire shut down part of Interstate 86 in Chemung County late Monday night, September 22nd, backing up traffic.

According to 511NY, the fire was first reported just after 11 p.m. in the eastbound lanes between the Big Flats exit and the Arnot Mall. As of 2:00 a.m., all eastbound lanes remained closed between Exit 49 (Locket Road) and Chambers Road as crews worked at the scene.

WENY News crews on the scene say just after midnight, traffic was at a standstill. Authorities eventually allowed drivers to turn around and exit using an on-ramp in the opposite direction to clear the congestion.

There is no word yet on injuries or the cause of the fire
