MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KTTC/KCRG) – A Minnesota jury has found a North Liberty woman guilty in the murder of an Iowa City woman who had just moved to Minneapolis to pursue a music career.

A Hennepin County jury on Monday convicted Margot Lewis on both counts of second-degree murder with intent not premeditated and second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony in the death of Liara Tsai.

Tsai was stabbed in death by Lewis in her Minneapolis apartment in June of 2024. Lewis then crashed the car she was driving on I-90 near Eyota with Tsai’s body in the backseat. At the time of her death, Tsai was an aspiring DJ in the Minneapolis area.

Jurors also found aggravated sentencing factors exist. That will allow the court to sentence Lewis beyond the sentencing guidelines.
