DES MOINES, Iowa -- (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) -- A candlelight vigil is scheduled for Wednesday night to honor a Des Moines teen at one of the places that he loved most: the baseball field. Santiago “Santi” Rhone, 15, of Des Moines, died Saturday night when a motorcyclist struck him as he was crossing a street.
Rhone was a sophomore on the Des Moines East varsity baseball team. Polk County authorities say that a motorcyclist hit him around 11p.m. Saturday on Northeast 29th Street.
Friends have established fundraisers to help his family. They are selling tshirts and are collecting donations at the candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
