BROOK PARK, Ohio -- City officials say Brook Park and the region stand to benefit from a major NASA milestone: The Glenn Research Center has been selected to manage the agency’s fission surface power project .

It’s an effort to design small nuclear power systems for the Moon and Mars.

Mayor Ed Orcutt told City Council Sept. 16 that the announcement underscores Glenn’s importance.

He said it also could create new opportunities for Brook Park as the center looks toward the future.

“The NASA Glenn Research Center was awarded the fission surface power nuclear program, which is great news for the city of Brook Park,” Orcutt said.

“The numbers and the effects financially for the city of Brook Park are just not there, not available (right now).
