A summer COVID-19 wave has been surging across the United States since June and into fall, with high levels of viral activity still reported in wastewater across most states.
Some key metrics to track the spread of COVID-19 show signs of slowing, but positivity and emergency department visit rates are still up, according to data analyzed by the Get the Facts Data Team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The summer surge of COVID-19 cases began in June and July, according to Robert Hopkins, a medical director for the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases and a practicing internal medicine physician and pediatrician. This is a bit earlier than prior summer surges.
