A mum hounded by bailiffs paid off £5.4k of debt in five years while earning £20k by following one rule. Nicole Heeley, 35, says she gave up her dream of becoming a teacher when she dropped out of university due to her 'crushing' debt - which mounted up to £10k at its highest.
She had got into money troubles while she was studying for a PGCE at Liverpool Hope University in September 2008 - and her debt continued to mount over the next 13 years. Nicole was taking out payday loans for train fares from Crewe, Cheshire, to Liverpool, Merseyside, after moving back home with her mum, Sue Parker, 66, and struggled to pay household bills.
