Last Tuesday, the City of Hamilton approved new mill levies and a final budget for the 2026 fiscal year.

City Financial Administrator Craig Shepherd walked the council through notable changes in the town’s final budget, pointing out additions like decreased taxable values and property taxes.

The council approved the city’s preliminary budget on July 1 and on Sept. 16 reviewed and adopted a smorgasbord of levies and assessments for the city’s street maintenance district, lighting districts, water and sewer rates and more.

For the final 2025-2026 budget, Hamilton’s total number of mills increased from 186.55 to 222.08. The city’s total budgeted revenues were $16,870,291 and the expenditures were $24,437,919. Shepherd credited mills and other budgetary changes to an increase in costs and a
