Political analysts have called on the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to uphold peace as the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) prepares to announce the presidential election results.

Commenting on the matter, George Phiri said the most important step for the two leading contenders is to encourage peace within their parties and among their supporters to ensure calm before and after the results are declared.

He further emphasized that party leaders should take responsibility by guiding their supporters to accept any outcome in order to safeguard the peace the country is currently enjoying.
