Drivers who break road rules this month risk a £300 penalty and being taken off the roads. Motorists who flout Rule 161 of the Highway Code when returning to university can be fined, it has been warned.
Drivers could be slapped with 11 points on their licences in September as they pack their cars and head back to university for the new year.
Rule 161 of the Highway Code states: 'All mirrors should be used effectively throughout your journey. You should use your mirrors frequently so that you always know what is behind and to each side of you, reports Birmingham Live .
'You should use them in good time before you signal or change direction or speed. You should be aware that mirrors do not cover all areas and there will be blind spots.'
