The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has announced a new proposed solution to water shortages that are halting housebuilding plans. Government analysis has shown the solution could also save families £111 a year on utility bills.
The proposals will affect new-build homes by forcing it to adhere to stronger water efficiency standards. This could see new homes fitted with mandatory water-saving features like aerated taps and showerheads and dual flush toilets.
These proposed changes could make new builds more water efficient, saving families around 20 litres per person per day, adding up to a financial savings of £111 a year on energy and water bills.
