Two men remembered as heroes after the 2023 mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, have been honored posthumously for their selfless acts.

Jason Walker and his friend, Michael Deslauriers II, were awarded Monday the Carnegie Medal for Heroism, an honor that recognizes civilians in the U.S. and Canada who risk their lives to save others, News Center Maine reported.

The men were killed during the Oct. 25, 2023 mass shooting incident in Lewiston. They ran toward the shooter while he was trying to clear a jammed gun, officials said.
