With two-thirds of households already anxious about winter energy bills, experts are urging everyone to complete two simple home maintenance jobs before the cold weather arrives, potentially cutting bills by up to £700. The advice follows a survey which revealed many households are unprepared for winter as they confessed to overlooking basic tasks.

Two-thirds have been forced to pay out around £330 after failing to bleed their radiators before the cold snap. Meanwhile, a third confessed to skipping their yearly boiler service. This could lead to average repair bills of £392 should the boiler break down during the winter period.
