Expect a rainy week ahead, meteorologists say, as an abnormally dry stretch of weather that took hold of the region this month comes to a close.

The wet weather signals an end to what was the 13th driest period on record in Western Pennsylvania.

Monday alone saw 1.63 inches of rain recorded at Pittsburgh International Airport — more than four times the total that had fallen in September through Sunday and the highest amount recorded at the airport in a single day this year.

Just .39 inches of rain had been recorded at the airport from Sept. 1 through Sept. 21.

The rainfall to start the week marked the end of 15-day period without any measurable rain, said Liana Lupo, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Moon.
