An invasive grass that spreads quickly in disturbed areas has been found in three state game areas, and officials are asking the public to help locate stands of the plant before it becomes thoroughly established in Michigan.
Annual stiltgrass recently was detected in Augusta Creek, Barry and Petersburg state game areas, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said, and biologists have worked to destroy those infestations.
Stands of the plant also have been found covering a large area of both public and private land along the Huron River northwest of Ann Arbor, and smaller infestations in Berrien, Cass and Kent counties are being dealt with.
