Just before 1 p.m. Monday, the Brownwood Fire Department responded to call to 3101 Stephen F. Austin, the Canidae plant in Brownwood, for a fire in a vent.

Upon arrival, crews were presented with smoke that was coming from the roof and building. A offensive fire attack was made with using the city’s Engine, and with the use of hand lines inside the structure. The fire was stopped, preventing any major damage to the surrounding buildings. The fire was contained to the equipment involved, the equipment sustained moderate damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but has been determined to be unintentional in nature.

The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damages.
