US: Texas Senate candidate sparks outrage, calls Hanuman statue “False Hindu God”

Texas (US), September 23, 2025 — Alexander Duncan, a Republican Senate candidate in Texas, has ignited a major controversy by characterizing the 90-foot Statue of Union at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple as a “false statue of a false Hindu God.” The statue, installed in August 2024, is among the tallest Hanuman idols in North America.
In a post on X, Duncan questioned, “Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in Texas? We are a CHRISTIAN nation.” He followed this with a quote from Exodus 20:3-4, which forbids making idols.
