The City of Port Coquitlam is warning residents Tuesday after a mountain lion was spotted in a public park.
The city says it received reports of sightings at Blakeburn Lagoons Park near Carnoustie Golf Club.
If you see a mountain lion, the city advises you “stop, stay calm, do not turn your back and do not run. Maintain eye contact, look big and be assertive. Back away slowly.”
Sightings should be reported to the BC Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS).
In August alone, the BCCOS says it received 236 reports of cougar sightings across the province.
