AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) - Several proposed amendments in Texas’ Nov. 4 general election would provide property tax cuts for Texan homeowners if approved at the cost of billions of the state’s funding.
The general election has 17 different proposed statewide amendments on the ballot. Of those, ten of them relate to providing tax cuts in various ways, including on homes, businesses, capital gains, securities, and animal feed.
However, two of those amendments, Propositions 11 and 13, would provide Texas homeowners with increased homestead exemptions. Those exemptions create a discount on school property taxes, lowering how much of a home’s value can be taxed by public schools.
Proposition 13 would apply to all Texas homeowners, increasing the homestead exemption to $140,000 from the current $
