ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Asheville Police Department said it is investigating an early Tuesday morning homicide.

Officials said they responded to a report of a disabled driver on I-26 east at exit 33 around 3:23 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the passenger in the car was the victim of of a “serious assault”.

The department said after negotiation, the driver got out of the car and was taken into custody.

According to police, the passenger passed away from their injuries. At this time, they have not been identified.

Detectives and Forensic Technicians are investigating this incident as a homicide. The identity of the suspect is being withheld until charges are filed.
