Lidl, Sainsbury's, Asda and Tesco shoppers have been warned over visiting stores in September - amid skyrocketing grocery bills. UK inflation stood still last month, remaining at the highest level since the start of 2024.

But Which? has found Aldi is the cheapest supermarket - meaning Lidl , Sainsbury's , Asda and Tesco shoppers stand to save cash by switching. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation remained at 3.8% in August, the same as in July.

August’s inflation rate of 3.8% means if an item cost £100 a year ago, it would now cost £103.80. It is unchanged from the rate recorded in July, meaning that prices were increasing at the same rate that they previously were.
