KATY, Texas — A baseball coach is recovering after he was shot at a tournament in Katy over the weekend.

It happened at The Rac Katy on Sunday morning, sending parents, players and coaches running for cover. Coaches told KHOU 11 News they could hear gunfire throughout the weekend at the complex. On Sunday, bullets flew through the fields.

Teams from across Southeast Texas were gathered for a weekend tournament, including the Houston Warriors. Warriors founder Andy Baize said his coach was engaged in pregame prayer with his team.

“He literally took the bullet for a child that was to his left, and so thankfully we avoided a major disaster. Still very, very emotional over it,” Baize said.
