CLEVELAND — The Detroit Tigers open a 3 game series Tuesday night that could define their season and determine their postseason fate.

They face the Cleveland Guardians for 3 games.

Following a dismal final homestand of the season, the Tigers division lead over Cleveland has shrunk to 1 game.

They had a double-digit division lead just weeks ago.

Detroit still controls their own destiny; their magic number to clinch the AL Central for the first time since 2014 is six after Cleveland lost on Sunday.

A sweep by Detroit would give them the division crown and a lock for post season play.

Anything less and their prospects become much murkier as they finish the season in Boston.
