LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers has filed a lawsuit against Lorex Corporation and Lorex Technology Inc., accusing the companies of deceiving consumers about serious security flaws in their home security cameras.
The cameras, sold at Costco and other major retailers across Nebraska, are tied to Dahua, a Chinese surveillance technology manufacturer blacklisted by the U.S. government for national security concerns and human rights abuses.
Although Dahua sold Lorex to a Taiwanese holding company in 2022, Hilgers says Lorex still relies on Dahua for key components and networks. That ongoing relationship, according to the lawsuit, leaves consumers vulnerable to hacking and potential surveillance by foreign entities.
