ALASKA (WTAJ) — The 2025 Fat Bear Week competition is back again, and some very big bears at the Katmai National Park in Alaska have packed on the pounds to try to tip the scales in their favor.

Katmai was established in 1918 to protect the region around Novarupta and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. Today, it protects over 9,000 years of history and habitat for thousands of brown bears and other creatures. The bears themselves are some of the most iconic and recognizable species and have spent the last months chowing down as they prepare for hibernation.
