While the investigation into a fatal shooting at a youth football game on Sunday afternoon, September 21, 2025, in Wilmington continues, the effects of the incident linger among those who were there.

Coaches from the Upland Hurricanes football program were back at the Eden Park complex on Monday to collect items left behind as children and parents ran for cover as shots rang out.

"During the halftime speech, that's when I heard the shot ring out, and we just dove on the ground, as usual," said Coach Skip Burton, the Upland Hurricanes president. " Now, all them from their sideline is running toward us, jumping over fences toward us, and I'm like, 'Oh, it's real not just shots in the air or fireworks.'"
