NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man has been given two years in prison for having a machine gun conversion device.

Adolfo Cruz, 27, pleaded guilty Monday to unlawful possession of a machine gun in front of U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone, Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs said in a press release.

Cruz was arrested after an April 2024 traffic stop in Lufkin. An officer noticed a gun case in the back seat and asked Cruz what was inside, the press release said. When Cruz reached for the case, a gun fell out.

During a pat-down search, the officer found a machine gun conversion device (MCD). The press release describes MCDs as "small mechanisms that can be attached to the rear of the slide of a firearm, converting a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic machinegun.“
