DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) - The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) says a baby boy is now in the department’s custody through the Safe Haven Law.
HHS says the baby boy was born September 8. He is the fourth Save Haven baby in 2025 and the 78th since the law went into effect more than two decades ago.
The department did not specify where the baby was dropped off.
Iowa’s Safe Haven Act is an option for parents in crisis who determine they cannot care for an infant up to 90 days old. Safe havens include hospitals and police and fire stations.
Iowa HHS works to place infants in an approved foster home while awaiting permanent adoption.
