FLINT, MI – The Flint teenager accused of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Jayla Keel on 810 Day in downtown Flint has been referred for a competency evaluation.

Terrence Deniod Green Jr., 18, was arraigned Aug. 29 on five charges in Genesee District Court.

Green returned to court on Sept. 16, when he was referred for a competency evaluation that was approved by District Court Judge William H. Crawford II.

Green will now undergo a competency evaluation at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Saline.

A defendant is incompetent to stand trial only if they are incapable of understanding the nature and object of the proceedings, or if they are incapable of assisting the defense in a rational manner because of mental condition.
