The Winter Games will return to Western Europe for the first time in two decades. The 2026 Winter Olympics is scheduled to take place in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo from February 6 to February 22, and NBCUniversal has officially announced the broadcast team that will cover the opening ceremony.
According to a press release from NBCUniversal, "TODAY" co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and NBC Sports commentator Terry Gannon will host the opening ceremony for the network. They will be joined by three-time Olympic snowboarding gold medalist Shaun White during the Parade of Nations. The event will be held at the iconic San Siro Stadium, home to the football clubs AC Milan and Inter Milan.
“There is nothing like an Opening Ceremony at an Olympic Games when the world comes together, promoting peace, unity, and athletic excellence,” said Molly Solomon, Executive Producer, NBC Olympics, in the press release. “With their multitude of Olympic broadcasting experiences, Savannah and Terry are the perfect team to launch our Winter Olympic coverage. And joining them is snowboarding legend Shaun White, whose five Olympic appearances and unmatched perspective as a global ambassador for his sport will bring viewers inside the athlete experience.”
Mike Tirico, the Olympic primetime host, will contribute to the coverage of the opening ceremony from Northern California as he prepares for Super Bowl LX, which will also be broadcast on NBC and Peacock on Sunday, Feb. 8.
NBCUniversal's coverage of the opening ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. ET on February 6, with primetime coverage starting at 8 p.m. on both NBC and Peacock.
