AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) is set to consider emergency rules regulating consumable hemp products following an executive order from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott earlier this month.
Abbott directed state agencies to crack down on hemp-derived products and keep them out of the hands of minors after lawmakers failed to reach an agreement on regulation during recent special sessions.
The governor vetoed a proposal to ban THC products outright but has pushed for tighter restrictions, particularly on sales to people under 21.
Under Abbott’s order, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) must strengthen requirements for product testing, labeling and enforcement.
