Amarillo College celebrated a landmark moment Friday, Sept. 19 with its first-ever presidential investiture, formally installing Jamelle J. Conner as the school’s 15th president and the first woman to hold the role.

Conner was named Amarillo College president in December 2024 after a 17-month national search and was formally welcomed to campus in February 2025.

The 10 a.m. ceremony, held on the Oeschger Family Mall at the Washington Street Campus, blended academic tradition with community spirit. Faculty in full regalia led a processional as the Amarillo College Faculty String Quartet performed Richard Ashcroft’s “Bittersweet Symphony.” Guests signed a commemorative flag and collected keepsakes before a post-ceremony celebration featuring food trucks and live music.
