NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — The New Braunfels Police Department has arrested two people after a traffic stop led to the seizure of 44 pounds of cocaine.

On Sept. 19, officers conducted a traffic stop on a GMC pickup truck in the 700 block of I-35 north.

A Seguin PD K9 was called in to assist the officers with a search of the vehicle.

During the search, the K9 allegedly helped officers locate a hidden compartment in the floor of the vehicle that had around 44 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of $1 million, according to police.

The driver of the truck was identified as 21-year-old Maria Elena Rojas; and the passenger was identified as 47-year-old Gustavo Licea-Feregrino.

Both were placed into the custody of Homeland Security and are facing federal drug charges.
