FREDERICTON - New Brunswick's ombudswoman released a damning report Tuesday on the province's use of seclusion rooms and physical restraints in adult psychiatric facilities, practices she said reflected a collective failure of society.
The 66-page report, titled "Help!" was based on an investigation between February 2021 and October 2023 by Marie-France Pelletier. It includes stories of patients restrained for hours, sometimes in their own urine, and of patients kept in seclusion rooms without means to contact health staff.
