LUFKIN, Texas (KETK)-- A Nacogdoches man was sentenced to federal prison on Monday after committing a machine gun violation in 2024.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice Eastern District of Texas, on April 10, 2024, the Lufkin Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle operated by 27-year-old Adolfo Cruz.

"The officer noticed a gun case in the back seat of Cruz’s vehicle and asked Cruz what was inside the case," officials said. "Cruz reached for the case, and a firearm fell out. The officer removed Cruz from the vehicle and conducted a pat-down search. During the pat-down search, the officer found a machine gun conversion device (MCD)."
