Twelve-year-old Sophia Forchas — the last hospitalized victim of the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School on Aug. 27 in Minneapolis — is making steady progress at recovery, according to family.
In a statement Monday, parents Tom and Amy Forchas said doctors are “cautiously optimistic” and Sophia will transition from acute care to an inpatient rehabilitation program this week.
“Though she still has a long journey ahead, filled with extensive therapy, her resilience continues to inspire hope at every step. Sophia is strong, brave, and unwavering in her fight toward healing,” they wrote.
Doctors previously said Sophia had been shot in the head and had to be placed in a medically induced coma. Part of her skull was removed to accommodate brain swelling.
