NEW YORK (PIX11) — An unusual arrest was made over the weekend when a man was accused of aiming a laser pointer at Marine One while President Trump was aboard.
On Sunday, a man was arrested in Suffolk County for aiming at a police helicopter while it was in flight, according to authorities.
The man accused of shining the laser at Marine One was charged with a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The Long Island man was charged with reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.
In the United States, there have been nearly 6,000 reported laser hazard incidents in 2025, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
In New York, 740 incidents have been documented since 2024.
