Honolulu police are searching for a driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision Monday night in Kalihi.

Police said the crash occurred about 7 p.m. when a 58-year-old woman was crossing North School Street in a marked crosswalk at Kokea Street. She was hit by a male motorist making a left turn from Kokea onto North School Street.

The driver fled the scene and was last seen heading west on North School Street. He has not yet been identified, police said.

Emergency Medical Services transported the woman to an area hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

Police said speed does not appear to have been a factor. It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
