Apple’s new iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone yet , held up against bending pressure but cracked during drop tests , according to Allstate Protection Plans’ latest breakability tests.
In back-down drops from six feet, the iPhone 17 Pro survived with minor scuffs, while the iPhone Air’s rear panel cracked but the phone stayed usable. In face-down drops, both phones’ screens shattered after a single fall, leaving the devices functional but unsafe to use without repairs.
On bend tests, the iPhone Air bent at 190 pounds of pressure and the iPhone 17 Pro at 200 pounds, with both still working afterward. Allstate noted these results were well above industry standards and avoided a repeat of “Bendgate,” which affected earlier slim smartphones.
