DENTON, Texas — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent a letter Friday to University of North Texas officials, asking the university to investigate after, he alleges, a student was asked to leave class after denouncing other students' statements about the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk .
Paxton said in the letter, addressed to UNT President Harrison Keller and Dean of Students Laura Smith, that a video appeared to show some students in a UNT classroom watching the video of Kirk's shooting and cheering "that he would die from his injuries." One of the students who overheard then "expressed her own opinion that the assassination should not be celebrated or discussed in class," Paxton said in the letter.
