President Donald Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told us on Sept. 22 that part of the reason why children are autistic is because of Tylenol being used during pregnancy. They also announced an effort to support a drug, leucovorin, that has shown some limited signs of success in treating autistic kids.

By any measurement, this was a major announcement from the American government. Since it also happened on my autistic son's birthday, it was a little more significant in my house.

I promptly told my son that, apparently, he is autistic because his mother had a fever or headache while she was pregnant. He didn't really have much to say on the topic and just carried on playing Minecraft. I had already told him that the president also thinks vaccines might be a cause, so my son might have just been confused and wanted me to pick one.

Autism, Tylenol and leucovorin: What do you make of Trump's announcement?

We want to know what you all think of Trump and RFK Jr.'s announcement on the cause and treatment of autism. Take our poll below or send us an email to forum@usatoday.com with the subject line "Forum autism announcement." I'll even get you started with some questions:

  • What do you think about Trump and RFK Jr. linking Tylenol to autism?

  • Do you have any concerns with the Trump administration taking over research on the topic? Why?
  • Do you think people are overreacting to the announcement? Why?
