Maryland State Schools Superintendent Carey Wright spoke on a recent report from Comptroller Brooke Lierman that 80% of school buildings in the state are in need of repair or restoration.

Wright joined the C4 and Bryan Nehman Show Tuesday morning. When asked about the report, Wright said the Interagency Commission on School Construction has done good with the money that it has.

“Between the years of 2016 and 2025, the state granted over $5.2 billion in capital grants for LEAs (local education agencies),” Wright said.

Wright added that the requests coming in to fix up the schools costs more than the funds they currently have.

“The requests that are coming in obviously are greater than the money,” Wright said. “The requests are totaling around $777 million. But right now, the grants that
