BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn — A celebration was held Tuesday in Blount County to honor the inaugural class of students participating in P ellissippi State Community College's new Aviation Technology program.
The program teaches students how to fix and maintain aircraft, with the goal of graduates filling jobs that are already available in East Tennessee.
Leaders from the school, the Blount Partnership, Blount County, Knox County and Monroe County honored the students today.
Students told 10News they're excited for the hands-on classes and to get into the hangars.
"We even get in the plane wings, that's what I'm really hoping for," student Lindy Futrell said. "We get in the plane wing, we do electrical stuff, we work on the engines, we work on different motors. Stuff like that."
