Outside the United Nations General Assembly Tuesday a sea of protesters, chanting and carrying Iranian flags, gathered to oppose the Iranian delegation to the U.N.

Soona Samsami, the United States representative to the National Council of Resistance of Iran, addressed the crowd, calling for regime change.

"Here is our message today: the seat of Iranian people at the United Nations must not be given to the regime of execution, torture and massacre," Samsami said.

According to a press release from the Organization of Iranian American Communities, Iranians from more than 40 states flocked to New York City for the protest.

Mitra Samani came from California, where she is a board member for the California Society for Democracy in Iran. She also said she was once a political prisoner inside Iran.

"Thousands are here to oppose the Iranian regime and letting the international community, especially the U.N., know that the Iranian delegation are just representing the government, not the Iranian people," Samani said. "They have to go."
