“A bunch of us were involved in other local community centers — and it felt like we had a lot more energy to give than there was capacity to receive,” said Dana Newman, who is a founding board member and the communications director of the Resilience Resource Center in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania.
Recently, the Gender Justice Fund awarded the center $20,000 through its Trans Resilience Fund, supporting programs and services specifically for trans community members.
Other organizations sometimes identify a funding source and then shape their programming to fit the requirements and priorities associated with that funding, explained Newman.
