BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Detroit Lions’ new defensive coordinator is one of LSU’s own, and he made a statement Monday night on the national stage.
Kelvin Sheppard, a former LSU linebacker and captain of the Tigers’ 2010 SEC West title team, was promoted to defensive coordinator in January after Aaron Glenn left to become head coach of the New York Jets.
On Monday, Sheppard’s defense turned heads by sacking Lamar Jackson seven times in a 38-30 road win over the Baltimore Ravens.
“To get seven sacks [against Jackson] is insane, hats off to our defense,” said Lions receiver Amon-Ra St Brown after the game.
