NOLENSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Nolensville police are investigating a despicable crime where someone vandalized and stole from a centuries old family cemetery.
The McFarlin Family Cemetery has generations of tombstones, marking people born as early as the 1830s.
According to police, earlier this month, someone stole an ornamental gate that has been guarding the burial grounds for perhaps 100 years.
The cemetery is nestled along Battle Road, where La Vergne, Davidson County, Nolensville and Williamson County all meet.
Lt. Josh Combs with the Nolensville Police Department said the person responsible came in the dark of night armed with an acetylene torch.
"Correct, it's a detestable crime to steal something from a family cemetery or any cemetery is despicable," Combs told News 2.
